"Fans of the film, however, counter that it is good for those who have in some way fallen through society's cracks to have a Christmas film that reflects what Christmas really means for them. Also of delight to those disheartened with Christmas is Willy's relationship with Therman. The mainstream figures beloved by those chiding Miramax and Disney for Bad Santa are cited by many survivors of abuse as being most likely to abuse characters such as Therman." Yeah, citation realllly needed.

What's up with the picture?

[edit]

Why does it show Hussein? Can somebody please revert this? --80.129.37.213 21:29, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stub to start

[edit]

This article only needs a cast section to reach start class. Once it's added, the stub class can be switched over to a start class. --Nehrams2020 08:01, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Eric Hwang," whoever that may be, seems to have a bit more credit for this film than he deserves.

Cursing

[edit]

The amount of cursing in the movie is tremendous, and I enjoyed every single expletive. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 209.16.81.9 (talk) 03:20, 18 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Thurman

[edit]

In the scene with the report card, one can see that the kid's name is clearly ThUrman, not ThErman. On IMDB he is only credited as 'The Kid' so I see no reason why it shouldn't be Thurman in the article. 24.205.65.236 21:58, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

bad santa 2

[edit]

It says that Billy Bob said there would be a sequel in 2008, yet there is no source. It's doubtful this is true. Either add a source or remove it.

Critics actually liked this movie?

[edit]

I thought this was a good movie, but I expected critics to hate it.

MontanaHatchet 04:36, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lots of critics liked the movie, including Roger Ebert. Deliciousgrapefruit (talk) 15:38, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"The unrated version of the film was released"...

[edit]

In the US, I'm assuming? Please don't assume. Please say so. Here in the UK, it is illegal to sell a film that hasn't been rated (or granted exemption); I think similar things apply elsewhere. The only reason I haven't edited myself is that I'm not absolutely sure. 86.132.141.14 (talk) 01:44, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So, what's it actually about?

[edit]

It's good to have such a detailed plot summary, but some of us just want to know what the film is about, not read a blow-by-blow account. The article really needs a 1- or 2-sentence summary of what the film is about, in the opening paragraph before the table of contents. 78.105.167.145 (talk) 19:36, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bad Santa is an abusive assault on the sentimental slop that parades itself as inspiring holiday fare. And though (other than script contributions) the Coens only produced the film, it is recognizably Coen-ish in tone. Unfortunately, any attempt to describe it in such a manner would be considered OR or a non-NPOV "interpretation". I agree that the summary tells a lot, but gives little insight. Who is "Mitchell"?

[edit]

Several references are made to a character named "Mitchell" in the article. This seems to be a mistake.--24.222.87.186 (talk) 20:44, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced director's cut section

[edit]

Terry Zwigoff's director's cut features numerous changes to the film, as Zwigoff removes many scenes or changes some; as a result it is actually three minutes shorter than the original. In this cut, Willie is viewed as a less sympathetic character, as many of the scenes where he helps out Thurman are excised from the film. Most prominently featured is a radically different ending. In this version, Thurman simply cleans Willie's blood from the front porch rather than attacking the bully. Some other changes include:

  • The opening monologue about Willie's father is removed.
  • The scene where Willie celebrates with Marcus after the robbery is removed, along with the scene with Willie stealing from the bar in Florida.
  • Willie screams more obscenities and throwing more beer bottles when he fails to turn off his alarm clock.
  • Marcus calls Willie a "drunken imbecile" after he throws a bottle into a car windshield.
  • A different take of Willie screaming at Thurman when he loses his checkers game.
  • The subplot with Thurman's Advent calendar is removed.
  • A scene is added before the "pinball" scene, where a boy band performs along with an interpreter for the deaf.
  • The luminaria subplot is removed
  • The scene where Willie teaches Thurman to defend himself is removed.
  • A scene is added before the robbery, which takes place during Marcus and Willie's final day on the Santa Claus job. Here, Marcus chastises Willie for being drunk on the job, telling him to get in shape and "suck it up" before the robbery.
  • Willie's quote at the climax saying that "This is Christmas and the kid (Thurman) is getting his present" is removed.
  • A different, more cynical version of Willie's letter to Thurman, stating that he would return when he wants to "fuck Mrs. Santa's sister in the jacuzzi." His request to have Thurman fix some sandwiches is also removed.
  • A new sequence before the credits, which shows every cast member.

Removed because no references and is not encyclopedic. --Peppagetlk 15:58, 18 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reception

[edit]

Someone decided to edit the reception, but failed to give reason why. 99.109.1.145 (talk) 06:26, 6 March 2013 (UTC)majinsnake[reply]

Ireland Controversy

[edit]

The film generated controversy in Ireland. It was rated 15A (equivalent to PG), meaning persons under 15 needed to be accompanied. Complaints were made that it was unsuitable for children after a woman brought her children, and that the certification of 15A was too lenient. I don't know if this is notable enough to be included in the article, I'd prefer to have more sources.

Film certification in Ireland changed after that, a 16 certificate was introduced. It was said this certificate was because of Bad Santa but that would definitely need to be sourced, probably more than one source (The Mirror) to properly show it was WP:NOTABLE. (This is probably another suitable source about the 16 certificate but I don't have access to newspaper archives, and would need to find the article on the Web Archive which is difficult without the original link to search by). -- 109.78.73.145 (talk) 04:55, 4 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
